The ways of the world are continually changing and evolving. In response to this, as individuals, we have to continually learn and add to our existing knowledge and skills. The need to upskill and reskill has never been so pressing, especially for educators.

The education scenario is ever evolving and there is an urgent need for school communities to adapt to a fast-changing world. Not only have the existing learning tools undergone change, but the beneficiaries are also being redefined. The world of information has changed dramatically and as educators we cannot afford to continue with old school methods of teaching and learning in a digital world. For educators to thrive in a rapidly evolving technology- mediated world there is the growing need for the ‘trainer to be trained’ or the ‘educator to be educated’.

While our prior learning may act as a basis for all that we do in a school setting, upskilling and reskilling helps us to stay relevant in our classrooms. In the post pandemic world, having an open mind to new learning approaches will work to our advantage. This is particularly important in the world of Learning Support and Inclusive Education. As Diverse Needs Personnel, we have to understand our students' unique needs, learning style, social and cultural background, interests, and abilities, and work accordingly. Upskilling and reskilling ourselves continually helps us in becoming thoughtful of the realities, in developing solutions that are apt to supporting student learning; and fostering innovative approaches to achieve favourable learning outcomes. Invest your time in a variety of learning and development courses through your school learning portal; or sign up to relevant courses through private mediums. #YourPDPgoals While we gain important understanding on strategies and behaviour plans to support our students, we must also focus on nurturing soft skills such as communication, critical thinking, teamwork, work ethics, creative problem-solving...etc. to build an agile and resilient mindset for ourselves. This will help us to train and develop, while also ensuring one feels equipped and prepared, to not only educate today’s students, but guide, lead, encourage and equip students for life beyond school.
